Hello David, loved your thoughts on Sly and Brian. Revisiting The Beach Boys in recent years has been a revelation. I was late to knowing that Brian and McCartney were alway trying to outdo the other. Talk about upping your game!

Yeah, after Sgt. Pepper’s was finally finished, the first thing Macca did was fly to LA to play it for Brian. The latter was already in dire straits, and when he heard “Shes Leaving Home,” he fell apart. That was essetially the end of Smile, at least for the 20th century.

David pls forgive me if I've brought this up before, but do you follow the amazing, great Andrew Hickey's A History of Rock in 500 songs? If not, you should at least check it out, and if so, your thoughts?

I have listened to literally a dozen on this walk, and just downloaded a bunch more. INCREDIBLE research. I’ve learned SO much.

What a week between losing these two giants and ya know, what's going on in the country and the world. Thanks for the brief but accurate tributes to those monumental artists. Keep on trucking'!

Amazing chicken that was marinated in local herbs, w a tremendous pasta made from wheat berries Marco grinds into flour himself, then makes the pasta. And a dessert that was a pound cake with cream and a compote made of apples and rhubarb, with a sprinkling of chocolate. And loads of local wine. We were up talking until 3 am. A wonderful serendipitous birthday.

Your stories are great insights into life. Your musings ( sometimes ramblings hehe) are heartfelt and well written. I have of course heard many a story about the Camino but your journey has really inspired me to put it close to the top of my bucket list. Keep on keeping on David and I am looking g forward to hearing more about the New York meal you had in France. Take care.

Although I beg to differ about the other Beach Boys albums "not being very good", I appreciate what you have written about those guys. What a tough week for our collective memories 😓

Fair enough. Besides the two masterpieces, which album do you think holds up best AS an album?

I quietly gasped listening to the first tracks of Wilson’s last album - every harmony - vocal and instrumental - efficiently laid bare with a few piano notes. He heard everything.

I’ve spent a few days with the Quadrophenia instrumentals in the meantime
